Counseling Experience
In my heart, I have always been a counselor! Listening with compassion and a non-judgmental nature is a natural process for me. In fact, my clients have told me how much they appreciate that I listen and that I seem to understand what they are going through.
In addition to twenty years of mental health and substance abuse counseling practice, my life’s work has included 20 years of experience teaching children and adolescents. I have facilitated the counseling process for individuals, couples, families, and groups ranging in age from preschool to adulthood. My counseling education includes additional training in addiction and recovery, co-dependency, spirituality, self-esteem, families of youth-at-risk, anxiety, and depression.
Life Experience
Experience raising my own children helps me in relating to family and parenting concerns. As a member of a retired military family, I am able to understand the need for support during major transitions, including long distance moves and being away from the support of extended family. While in the military, I experienced frequent geographical separations from my husband and can understand how difficult it is to be without a spouse or partner at home to help with the children and daily demands.
My Philosophy
My perspective is that each person and his/her counseling experience is unique. Therefore, I work with you to determine your expectations and needs during our time together. I recently completed a doctoral program in Depth Psychology which has deepened my understanding of the therapy process. I can help you uncover and release the difficulties that interfere with living a life of freedom and joy.
